The Nebraska Chamber & CED | Industrial Solutions Network are partnering together to host an event to accelerate the knowledge and adoption of Industry 4.0 in order to protect our Nebraska Manufacturing Community from the threats of today and the increasingly advanced competition of tomorrow. 

The many advances of Industry 4.0 are making manufacturing processes, businesses, and products smarter. For processes, collaborative robotics are advancing the way in which humans and machine work together, allowing for collaborative programming where a worker can easily teach a robot a non-repetitive complex task. Advanced computer simulation software and augmented reality (AR) are allowing engineers to test different machines and factory layouts, realizing productivity improvements that were not evident through traditional means. Next, at the enterprise level, the industrial internet of things (IIoT) is allowing business to vertically integrate business systems as well as horizontally integrate along the supply chain. Complimenting this, rapid advances in data analytics are giving companies and institutions alike, the ability to acquire insight into their organizations like never before. Finally, Industry 4.0 is making products smarter through process flexibility, making customization scalable and allowing for products to be produced with a batch size of one.

To this point, the transformational capabilities of the Fourth Industrial Revolution have been established, but why should they matter for manufacturing enterprises in Nebraska? As previously stated, manufacturing output is the key driver of economic growth throughout the world. This is especially true in Nebraska. Currently, manufacturing in Nebraska contributes over $13 billion to the Nebraska economy, employing one tenth of the workforce. But, as the global manufacturing sector becomes smarter, increases productivity, and improves adaptability, Nebraska manufacturers must adapt to stay ahead of the competition and to keep up with the rapid advances of Industry 4.0. In short, investing in the many technologies of Industry 4.0 will not only strengthen Nebraska manufacturing, but also greatly improve supply chain resiliency, economic stability, and environmental sustainability for the entire state.

Now for the best part. The technologies of Industry 4.0 are not merely ideas in a distant future, they are transforming businesses right now, and the time to seize the opportunity is now.
